Cressida are a German production duo who have had a fair amount of success this year with their unique electro trance sound on releases such as Slightly Agravi and a slew of remixes for big names including a great re-work of Mirco De Govia’s Vital Spark and recently a new mix of Tilt – Angry Skies. Here they team up with talented Danish youngster and Kris O’Neil and vocalist Marc Starr for Starsight. With six mixes on offer, there is bound to be one here to suit your taste.

The Original Progressive Mix plods along at a very sedate pace, with a trademark low electro bass line and layers of shimmering melodies along with well used samples of the vocal. The break introduces the full vocal, along with a gentle acoustic guitar sounding guitar melody and subtle trance keys. A bell like melody that characterises many trance releases nowadays serves as the lead that, combined with the slightly uplifting synths and grimier bass, makes for a solid, well-arranged track. A pretty nice track for home listening, pitched up it may work well in a warm-up set. Matthias Lehtola and Maor Levi under their Angelstyle alias give it an injection of energy with a pulsating bassline and thumping beats whilst making all the right trance noises. In this mix the vocal sounds much more anthemic and the break is well structured with some more aggressive synths but no real build up – however this works to keep the pace up. Alongside this Jazper’s remix, another easy listening trancer.

The Modified Frequencies break beat mix is a nicely chilled downbeat track yet retaining some euphoric trance elements and using the melodic parts and vocal very well. As well as the progressive mix, Cressida and Kris O’Neil have also delivered a Trance Mix a more hands in your air take on the original, an energetic melodic groove and the vocal suits a more uplifting production. The Bass Angel mix is sort of a more gentle trance take on it with simplistic sounds that would fit into any good warm up set.
